Windy windy windy! Woohoo!
Went out for my 1 hour at 4pm and oh yes, a marvellous session that, really
a super effort. The 78L freestyle wave was being used by a client so
slightly hesitantly took the 78L wave, but turned out to be by far and away
the right choice. Properly powered up on my 5.2, to which I had added a bit
more downhaul, and it felt like it was rigged to perfection. Sail felt
really stable and was sailing along at top speed no-hands (harness only) at
times, with everything feeling very relaxed and comfortable despite the
nuking wind. Was surprised with a fully belly of wind in my sail how easy
it was to get the 78L wave planing, upwind, and sail generally. And being a
proper wave board was much more fun than the freestyle wave in the swell.
Much more controllable, but still very quick when desired, and some very
nice big floaty jumps. A few spin-out problems with the tiny fin, but as
the session went on got used to how to control the fin and also how to
recover from spin-out when it happened, without coming out of the
straps.
Gybes weren´t really happening, but by the end was getting the feel of how
to gybe the board, and really want to go out again to suss it completely.
Being fully powered up meant no problems with staying upwind (unlike the
previous 2 days), so could go for gybes at the end of each run, with no
need for tacking.
Lots of friends out as well so wicked laff (who can sail fastest, jump
highest, look the most cool etc etc etc). Just what I needed after a couple
of not so windy days. Probably even better than my last 4 star session a
few days ago, due to the board I used today (although similar conditions).
Would get 5 stars if I ever learn to gybe properly.
Stoked.
